The scuba career of Carmelo Sgroi began as a PADI Divemaster in the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian coast of Taormina, where he developed deep knowledge of the seabeds and main dive sites, perfect for both experienced divers and beginners (Discover Scuba Diving experiences).

He then earned his PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification at one of the world’s most prestigious dive schools: Prodive Cairns, in northern Queensland, Australia. From 2009, he worked for the renowned company Ocean Freedom/Ocean Free, diving daily on the Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s most precious natural heritage sites.

Carmelo continued his professional path by achieving the titles of PADI IDC Staff Instructor and Master Instructor at Buddha View Dive Resort in Koh Tao, Thailand. Here he had the opportunity to work with Mark Soworka, one of the world’s leading PADI Platinum Course Directors, and with the Dive-Careers organization, specializing in the training of professional divers.

In 2018, Carmelo successfully completed the PADI Course Director Training Course in Malaysia, obtaining the highest level in the PADI educational system.

During his years abroad, he perfected a diver-centered teaching style, focusing on individual needs, quality training, and real in-water experience.

Returning to Sicily, his homeland, Carmelo brought with him an international wealth of experience with the mission of helping divers from around the world discover the natural beauty and rich underwater landscapes of the Ionian and Mediterranean Seas.

In 2015, thanks to his commitment and collaboration with Mark Soworka, Sea Spirit Diving Resort became a PADI 5 Star IDC Center and hosted the first international PADI Instructor Development Course in Sicily, launching the Dive-Careers Europe project.
