Did you know that there is a way to extend your bottom time and to have more no decompression time? The answer lies in diving with enriched air: nitrox. In this blog we will explain how it works, what the differences with normal air are and how you can become an EANx diver.
You probably noticed that we speak about enriched air, nitrox and EANx. This all means the same thing.
What is the difference of EANx compared to normal air?
Diving with nitrox will give you more time to explore the underwaterwold and you can jump back in the water faster! In other words, it gives you more no decompression time, especially on repetitive dives.
The air we breath is approximately 79% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. You can say that any mixture of nitrogen and oxygen is nitrox. In terms of recreational scuba, nitrox discribes breahting gas that is between 32% and 36% oxygen. More oxygen means less nitrogen, and that gives you some benefits.
What are the benefits of diving with nitrox?
- Longer bottom times
- Shorter surface intervals
- Dive deeper on repetitive dives
- Increased safety margins when diving within no-stop limits for air
- Many divers also say they feel less tired after diving with nitrox (although this is not scientifically proven)
So especially when you are doing multiple dives a day or are diving for many days in a row, it can be really useful to dive with nitrox.
PADI Enriched Air Diver specialty
To be able to dive with nitrox, you have to do the EANx specialty. This course can be done in just 1 day. It is a dry course, but we like to add a dive to it so you can really experience how it is to dive with nitrox.
You will learn how to:
- Use an oxygen air analyser
- Set your dive computer
- Dive with nitrox safely
The minumum age to enroll in this is 12 years old an minimum certification is (junior) Open Water Diver, but we can also integrate this specialty in the PADI Open Water Diver Course and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course!
Diving with nitrox on your fundives with us
If you are already certified to dive with nitrox, it is possible to book the nitrox tanks for your dive. You can easily add it to your booking for the dives you want to do, or let us know with a message.
On the day of your dives, we have the tanks filled for you and have the analyzer ready so you can analyse the tanks yourself.
 We offer courses in Italian, English, German and Dutch.
