What you will learn during your Discover Scuba Diving Program

Knowledge Development & Dive Theory

Once you’ve decided to participate in the program, you will receive the Discover Scuba Diving Booklet or the Discover Scuba Diving eLearning where you can create your PADI account. By reading through the booklet or eLearning for about 30 minutes, you will start to understand the basics of diving. How to breathe, equalise your ears, how to use scuba diving equipment, communicate with your diving instructor with hand signals and how to respect and interact with marine life. This is followed by a knowledge development section where you have to answer a couple of questions to see if you understood the basic concepts.

Confined Water Training

After the theory and knowledge development it’s time to get started for real! You will select the scuba diving equipment together with our dive professionals, get on our dive boat and we will bring you to one of the beautiful bays at the Isola Bella Marine Park. It’s the best place to take your first breaths underwater and learn the basics of scuba. When arrived at the diving spot, your diving instructor will first give you an elaborated briefing, explain all the basics and demonstrate the skills that will be completed under water. During your confined water session, you will be helped into your diving equipment and slowly introduced into the water.

Discover Scuba Diving Skills

Once you are in the water, it’s time to take your first breath from your regulator! You will do this first at the surface with our instructor and we will also check the mask together. Then slowly, you will descend into the blue and have the first experience of being weightless! It will be an amazing feeling! Once you are comfortable and ready you will complete a couple of skills underwater which your diving instructor briefed before on the boat. You will then watch your instructor demonstrate each of the following skills as you take it in turn to try and master these skills yourself. Here is a list of the skills you will learn;

  • Breathing underwater
  • Regulator clearing
  • Regulator recovery
  • Mask clearing
  • Equalization techniques
  • Inflate and deflate a BCD at the surface

Open Water Dive

On completion of your confined water session, you will have learned the basics of scuba diving and how to perform certain skills underwater. You will have also had enough time on SCUBA to be able to make your mind up if this is something that you would like to learn more about. We are sure you will be more than ready for your next dive: The Open Water Dive!

During the surface interval you will relax on our boat, taste delicious Sicilian fruit and have some ice tea, time for a toilet break and you instructor will debrief you and give feedback about your first dive.

After this nice break, you will jump into the water again for another dive guided by your dive instructor. If you feel confident, you can dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters or stay shallower if you feel more comfortable with that. During the dive you can enjoy the underwater world at our famous dive spot next to the Isola Bella and get another chance to blow those bubbles!

What is next after the Discover Scuba Diving Experience?

If the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program convinced you, it’s time to talk with your instructor about the next step: PADI Open Water Diver Course! Remember that the Discover Scuba Diving Program is a diving experience and a great way to get to know the basics of diving, but is it not a scuba diving certification.

Discover Scuba Diving & PADI Open Water Diver Course

The Open Water Diver Course is the most famous Scuba Diving Course in the world. By completing the Discover Scuba Diving Program, you will have that extra confidence to progress to the next level. The Open Water Diver Course allows you to become a certified diver and explore the underwater world to a depth of 18 metres/60 feet with a buddy. During the course you will build upon the skills you already completed in the confined water session of the Discover Scuba Diving Program and start to focus on one of the most important skills of scuba diving: get that perfect buoyancy.
