PADI Tec

Recreational scuba diving is usually carried out with one tank, using regular air as the gas mix, and by remaining within your no-decompression limits. But Tec Diving is another story.

There is a broad range of focuses in Tec diving, which may use multiple tanks, different gas mixes, and exceed the no-decompression limits. This requires entirely different dive planning and of course, deeper knowledge of technical diving. This can be achieved through any of the Tec Courses offered at Sea Spirit Diving Resort.

PADI Course Director Carmelo Sgroi is also a PADI Tec Deep Instructor and can teach PADI Tec 40, PADI Tec 45 and PADI Tec 50. During these courses, you will study the technical dive theory and discuss terms like ‘accelerated decompression’, ‘Surface Air Consumption’ and ‘stage tank’.

Why Tec Diving?

The main reason to expand your dive training through Tec courses is to visit deeper dive sites, such as wrecks, and to enjoy them with a longer bottom time. For example, at Sea Spirit, we regularly visit the dive site ‘The Gorgonians’ and with recreational diving, we only have approximately 5 minutes of bottom time due to the depth.

With adequate Tec diver training, we can extend our bottom time to 20 minutes. This allows us to take photos, appreciate the marine life, and admire the beautiful sea fans for longer.

The PADI Tec 40 course qualifies you to:

  1. Dive to a maximum depth of 40 meters using air or enriched air EANx
  2. Execute a dive with up to 10 minutes of required decompression stops
  3. Use enriched air NITROX of up to 50% oxygen (EANx50)
  4. Conduct technical dives with up to 2 tanks

The PADI Tec 45 course qualifies you to

  1. Make limited decompression dives using air, enriched air EANx and oxygen to a maximum depth of 45 meters
  2. Use a single decompression gas of up to 100% oxygen
  3. Conduct technical dives with up to 3 tanks

The PADI Tec 50 course qualifies you to

  1. Make limited decompression dives using air, enriched air EANx and oxygen to a maximum depth of 50 meters
  2. Use two decompression gasses of EANx and 100% oxygen
  3. Conduct technical dives with up to 4 tanks

During all courses, knowledge developments must be completed, and practical applications such as swimming techniques and hovering positions are practiced. Several dives are also included in both confined pool sessions and open water. Additionally, there is a whole new world of technical diving equipment to be discovered, which will be covered during the course. Each course takes 4 days.
